Asros :
Yes. We, as a company, are very excited about the future because we've been working our cabooses off to build a great console game. PC players may not care about that. Understood. However, growing the audience of Marvel Heroes allows us to do more things that we might not have been able to do before. More resources to put in to the game to allow us to hire people and build things currently not possible. The console launch isn't us slapping a port on to PS4 and XB1, its about opening new doors for the company and our product line from the ground up. Tech we build to make the console game (which I think you can see from the gameplay videos today is not a direct port) better can only help the PC game. How we bring that tech over to PC is another thing entirely. All things we are looking in to.
Asros : This isn't a nefarious plan to keep things from you guys. This is a matter of when you are building a new UI from scratch, you learn from the past and include things that you want. These features launching on console doesnt mean they can't launch on PC. What it means is that if we choose to do that, we need to find ways to do such a task that make sense economically and tactically. I've been up front about the costume closet for a LONG time. Even tripped over myself saying PC UI in streams on accident. It is something we want to do for PC as well, but doing that isnt an active project for us. When it is and when we know more details on when that is happening, we'll share it. Otherwise, I'd be here every week saying "no news, sorry".
Asros: I see where you are coming from and even understand the jealousy that PC players have in regards to console features. Like I said above, getting the opportunity from Marvel to take Marvel Heroes to console is so exciting because we were able to identify things that we have wanted to change for years and do that. It makes it far more likely for things that might have been too expensive to do previously to now happen. The upside on this is big for both audiences.
Asros : The itemization game on console is completely different than PC. I'm really happy with how it is turning out. Item progression (including a new, non omega rarity) really matters as you progress through the difficulty slider. Items matter a lot more than they used to. Lots of new keywords, procs, etc. Super exiting stuff
Asros : As I've said elsewhere today, we don't have anything specific to announce about what console features are coming to pc or not.
When it comes to itemization, imany of the new aspects have already been released on pc. Many during BUE, some more recent(changes to white > cosmic items). We took the systems that we could cleanly move to pc and have done so already. Once we have not done are because the console experience has been designed as a brand new experience. Why does this matter?
Dealing with item conversion on pc is an incredibly complex issue. We don't have to deal with that on console, which makes implementation easier and quicker. In the event we would move the new itemization systems to pc, a decent amount of item conversion engineering, testing and iteration would need to be done.
There was a lot of talk in the stream chat about the varying damage types and itemization to support far more build diversity. The itemization is apparently a lot more than just an extra tier.
An example given was being able to gear and build Storm specifically for lightning damage, or wind damage, etc.
Also the item and difficulty progression are allegedly much more important and designed better, there are trials required to advance to each new difficulty level as you progress.
There was a lot of stuff going by and I didnt catch all of it
Oh look, something ELSE we asked for on PC that will be on Console:
Brian Waggoner: Relics only stack to 100% now, and can be turned in for "Complete Relics"
Brian Waggoner: which are stronger versions of the full stack
Brian Waggoner: its a really cool system
Sounds pretty good. Even I am starting to wonder if they are purposefully trying to alienate the PC crowd.
Bad news. They did revamp the rune system. At least they mention no more Uru forge items and some of those powers will be put in slot 3 (not sure how runes will interact with it) and the enchanter will be turned into some scientist.
Someone did ask whether there are plans to bring in to PC. And Asros' reply was it would take a lot of planning to implement some of the new changes to PC since they need to be careful with player's current gear. My guess is some parts of the new changes will make it over and some will not. Also, console will not have uniques.
Joueur citant Asros : I asked Asros about this last night in detail and while he couldn't give me everything this is what we got out of those conversations
On consoles there is a time to kill target. They are balancing around that time. it seems to be about 60 seconds. They said enemy health and damage is based around both slider AND gear. It is going to be a bit slower than on PC "We wanted combat to be more tactical and require more skill" that's pretty much a direct quote.
Gazfirefly : While both PC and console UI go through our Scaleform engine, they were built very differently. It's honestly harder for me to talk about the design decisions that went into the PC version, because I wasn't here when they were made. I do know that the PC's UI does some things in a very funky way. Even something as basic as input handling on the PC is done in a way that I would not expect. When we started working on the console UI we had an opportunity to get a fresh start and get the UI to behave in a way we expected it to
Because of this, we definitely had a lot of discussion about doing a "reverse port" back to PC, as you guys put it. After all, if we finally got the UI working the way we thought it should have all this time, then why not bring that awesomeness to the PC as well? There are some complications there that we run into. For example (and this is just one of many examples I could give), the console UI doesn't need to support a mouse, but it would really suck if we ported the console UI back over and all of a sudden you could only navigate the UI and all the menus with hotkeys and arrow keys which simulate controller input. We'd want to add mouse support, but then that means all of the buttons on the UI need to actually work like "buttons" and respond to clicks and hovers and all that. Right now they don't (they're just static images), because we didn't need that functionality. So it'd be quite a bit of work to get the console UI to work on the PC, and that's not even getting into discussions about whether or not the designs even feel right for PC players (see my earlier post about how you'd lose certain advantages on PC like having multiple panels up at once).
Again, I'm not saying it won't be done. I'm not sure we have even decided what we want to do yet. We just have a lot to think about.
