(QOTW 04122010) Insurance, revisited
Hi everybody! Due to popular demand, we're taking another look at insurance! This is a great way for our community newcomers to catch up, as well. Q: "Can MH please expand on/update us a bit on the insurance mechanics, more specifically have there been any changes to the intended system since the last post." Insurance in Earthrise is currently in development and is being tested against various scenarios, allowing us to fine tune its effect on almost all mechanics in the game. Right now the previously described model is preserved intact. Players will be able to insure their worn gear and their inventory separately. Inventory insurance will unlock insured slots where items can be placed to be preserved in case of death, and each next slot purchase has increased price - we aim to make Insurance cheap enough so everyone can afford one or two slots, but preserving large amount of your carried loot would be prohibitively high. Death will not only provide the victim the spoils that hasn't been insured, but will also consume the most recently purchased (and most expensive) Insured slot. Players who are defeated frequently will have to watch for their Insured slots dropping in number and preserving less and less of their hard earned items. Aside from the potential chance to loot their victim, the killer will also receive a monetary reward, equal to a percentage of the cost of the Victim's Insured slot that has been lost. This is a balance measure to reward killers who take on opponents with many Insured slots and might not drop anything (or at least anything of considerable value) in case of death. Q: “If insurance money is split evenly based on damage dealt, does this mean dedicated medics/support roles are out of luck?” If a victim has been killed by a party, the Insurance money is split evenly among all members whether they have dealt damage or not to the victim. This is a way for support roles that have not dealt damage in combat to earn Insurance money. Enjoy! ~m. |
